What is ConnectED.ai?

ConnectED.ai is a college and career planning tool that your child's school has chosen to use. It helps students:

  • βœ“Build a list of colleges they're interested in
  • βœ“Track where they've applied and their application status
  • βœ“Explore career options and what jobs pay in different cities
  • βœ“Connect with a school counselor or advisor through the platform
  • βœ“Get AI-powered suggestions (like a smart college search engine)
  • βœ“Track their FAFSA (college financial aid form) status

The platform is provided by ConnectED.ai / Vavora Ventures, LLC. Your child's school signed a data privacy agreement with us before giving students access. Under that agreement, we work as an extension of the school β€” we are required to follow the same privacy laws the school follows.

What information does ConnectED.ai collect about my child?

We only collect information that helps students plan for college and careers. Here is a plain-language summary:

πŸ‘€

Account info

Name, email address, grade level, date of birth

πŸŽ“

Academic info

GPA, SAT/ACT scores (optional), intended major or career interests

🏫

College plans

List of colleges they're exploring, application status, deadlines

πŸ’°

Financial aid

FAFSA status (whether they've started, applied, or verified) β€” we do NOT collect your household income or tax info

🏠

Personal context (optional)

Living situation and economic background β€” students can skip these. We use them only to give better advice. We never share them with AI tools.

πŸ’¬

Messages

Conversations between your child and their assigned school advisor, visible only to them and authorized school staff

πŸ“‹

Plan progress

Steps completed toward college and career goals (e.g., "visited 3 colleges," "wrote a draft essay")

❌ What we do NOT collect or do:

  • β€’ Social Security Numbers
  • β€’ Health or medical records
  • β€’ Biometric data (fingerprints, face scans)
  • β€’ Disciplinary or behavioral records
  • β€’ Information about siblings
  • β€’ Your household income or tax documents
  • β€’ Ads β€” we never show your child advertisements
  • β€’ We never sell your child's data. Ever.

Who can see my child's information?

Your child

Full access to their own data β€” they control their profile, plan, and what they share.

Their assigned school counselor or advisor

Can see their college list, application status, plan progress, and messages. Cannot see sensitive personal context (economic/living situation) unless the student shares it.

School administrators (your district)

Can see all student data for students in their school, for oversight purposes. They are bound by FERPA.

ConnectED.ai staff

Only for technical support, security, and legal compliance. All access is logged.

AI tools (OpenAI)

A limited summary of your child's college interests and grades β€” NOT their financial situation, housing situation, messages, or photos. This powers the recommendation engine.

Other students, outside companies, advertisers

Never.

What rights do I have as a parent?

Under federal law (FERPA) and Texas law (Education Code Chapter 26), you have strong rights over your child's school records β€” including data held by tools like ConnectED.ai:

πŸ“ See everything

You can ask your child's school to show you all records the school β€” and ConnectED.ai β€” holds about your child. The school must respond within 45 days. We will send the school a full data export to fulfill your request.

How: Contact your child's school counselor or district office.

✏️ Fix mistakes

If something is wrong (a grade listed incorrectly, a false note, etc.), you can request a correction. Your request goes to the school, who can direct us to make the change.

How: Contact your child's school counselor or district office.

πŸ“„ Get a copy

You can request a copy of all records in a readable format (PDF or data export). If you can't visit the school in person, you can request copies be mailed or emailed.

How: Ask the school or email info@vavoraventures.tech with the district's authorization.

🚫 Say no to certain sharing

Except for sharing required to operate the platform (like sending data to the school counselor), we need your consent to share your child's data for any other purpose. You can say no.

How: Contact the school or email info@vavoraventures.tech.

πŸ—‘οΈ Delete your child's data

When your child leaves the school or program, you can ask the school to have ConnectED.ai delete your child's data. Some data may be kept for legal reasons (like state records-retention laws), but we'll tell you what and why.

How: Submit a written request to the district office.

πŸ‘οΈ See who has seen the records

You can request a log of everyone who has accessed your child's records β€” including any time an advisor viewed them or data was sent to an AI tool. We maintain this log and can provide it through the school.

How: Ask the district to request the disclosure log from ConnectED.ai.

What happens when my child turns 18?

Under federal law (FERPA), your rights as a parent transfer to your child when they turn 18 or enroll in college. After that point:

  • β†’Your child controls their own records β€” not you.
  • β†’You can only access their records if your child gives written consent, OR if you can show they are still claimed as a dependent on your federal taxes.
  • β†’ConnectED.ai automatically updates account permissions when a student turns 18.

If your child is 18+ and wants to share their progress with you, they can download a snapshot of their data from their dashboard to share with you directly.

What if there is a custody order or safety concern?

Under FERPA, both parents generally have equal rights to access school records β€” even if they are divorced or separated β€” unless a court order specifically removes one parent's access rights.

If you have a court order that restricts the other parent's access to your child's records, please provide a copy to your child's school. The school can instruct ConnectED.ai to restrict access on the platform as well.

For safety concerns (e.g., a restraining order), contact the district office immediately. We will enforce restrictions within 24 hours of receiving the school's instruction.

Special rights for Texas parents

Texas law gives parents additional rights beyond federal FERPA. Under Texas Education Code Chapter 26, you have the right to:

  • β˜…Review all written records about your child β€” not just grades and test scores
  • β˜…Review any instructional content or material your child is using in an educational technology tool
  • β˜…Get full information about what data the school and its vendors hold about your child
  • β˜…Request that your child's school not share data with a vendor you believe is misusing it
  • β˜…Receive written notice in your primary language about what data the school collects (we offer Spanish translation β€” see top of this page)

Texas Education Code Β§ 26.0081 requires districts to inform parents of these rights. If your district has not shared this information, contact the district's compliance officer.

My child is under 13. Do extra protections apply?

Yes. Federal law (COPPA) gives extra protections to children under 13. ConnectED.ai is designed for high school students, but some 9th-grade students may be 13 years old.

When your child's school signs up for ConnectED.ai, the school provides consent on your behalf for educational use β€” this is allowed by federal regulation. However, your child's data is still:

  • βœ“ Limited to what is needed for the service
  • βœ“ Never used for ads
  • βœ“ Never sold
  • βœ“ Deleted on request (with the school's coordination)

If your child is under 13 and you want to review, correct, or delete their data, contact the school. We will fulfill the request within 30 days.

How do I contact ConnectED.ai with a question or request?

Most requests should go to your child's school first.

Since ConnectED.ai operates as an extension of the school under federal law, records requests and corrections must be authorized by the district. The school will coordinate with us.

You can also contact us directly:

Email: info@vavoraventures.tech

We will respond within 5 business days and direct you to the right process. For requests that require district authorization, we will contact the school on your behalf.

For urgent safety concerns:

Contact your child's school directly. If you believe your child is in immediate danger, call 911.
